Our Wedding by Sanaz Safari

Hello and welcome to the first Grey Harlowe Collective blog post!

I chose to share our wedding as the first feature, as Our special day was the reason we delved into this industry.
We did not use the services of a wedding planner, as I began my research when we were first engaged and felt I was comfortable enough to source our vendors myself. We hired a decor company for our design + decor, and they completely understood our vision and ran with it beautifully. Everything down to the chairs was important to us, so we were involved in many aspects of planning.
With that said, considering a full planner is a great idea if you do not have the time, or a vision for your day- they do come with tons of expertise, knowledge of the industry and many preferred vendors they can refer.

Over the course of the 16 months of planning, things fell into place and we had our dream wedding.

When I look back on that day, the memories come to mind of how much fun we had, the dancing and laughter, and an incredible amount of love. Those were our wedding aspirations, and with the help of our vendors, we were able to pull off the most amazing day.

It was perfect.

We were recently featured in Wedding Bells magazine which is on stands now!
You can also take a look at our feature on their website:

For our special day, we envisioned romantic, classic, and natural. In order to keep our wedding style to our taste, we gravitated towards simplicity. From pure white bridesmaids’ dresses to white ties and blue suits for the groomsmen and botanical bouquets, we maintained this minimalist approach.

TIP: Create a visual diary when planning; A vision board, Pinterest, Instagram, magazine clippings; gather inspiration from all around you and what you’re drawn to: colors, objects, art, shapes, photography, fashion; It’ll help develop your theme and personalize your special day.

Our venue was the UBC Botanical Garden. We held our ceremony and reception under the arbour, and I couldn’t have imagined our wedding held anywhere else. One word to describe the overall vibe is ROMANTIC. It was of great inspiration to have come across photography of the many weddings that inspired our venue choice, but when the time came to walk down the aisle and stand under that arbour - it was pure magic and an experience we won’t forget.
Stunning + simple, crisp + green, lush + warm. All in one!

Our main goal was not having family or friends do anything but celebrate with us, and with our logistically challenging wedding, this would have been tougher if we hadn’t consulted a coordinator to work with us prior to and on our behalf on the day of.

TIP: If you choose to source your vendors yourself and plan the details of your special day without the guidance of a wedding planner, I would recommend utilizing the expertise of a coordinator to handle the logistics and organization on the day.

One important thing I took from our wedding was that it will take lots of time and effort to plan this special day, but it goes by in the blink of an eye: So make sure you truly ENJOY your day and take it all in. I made a note to take mental photos in my head with every detail I came across and I still replay them in my head when I think about the day.
